Relative Beilinson Monad and Direct Image for Families of Coherent Sheaves

چکیده
The higher direct image complex of a coherent sheaf (or finite complex of coherent sheaves) under a projective morphism is a fundamental construction that can be defined via a Cech complex or an injective resolution, both inherently infinite constructions. Using exterior algebras and relative versions of theorems of Beilinson and Bernstein-Gel’fand-Gel’fand, we give an alternate description in finite terms. Using this description we can characterize the generic complex, over the variety of finite free complexes of a given shape, as the direct image of an easily-described vector bundle. We can also give explicit descriptions of the loci in the base spaces of flat families of sheaves in which some cohomological conditions are satisfied—for example, the loci where vector bundles on projective space split in a certain way, or the loci where a projective morphism has higher dimensional fibers. Our approach is so explicit that it yields an algorithm suited for computer algebra systems.

Sheaf Cohomology and Free Resolutions over Exterior Algebras
In this paper we derive an explicit version of the BernsteinGel’fand-Gel’fand (BGG) correspondence between bounded complexes of coherent sheaves on projective space and minimal doubly infinite free resolutions over its “Koszul dual” exterior algebra. Among the facts about the BGG correspondence that we derive is that taking homology of a complex of sheaves corresponds to taking the “linear part...
متن کاملThe Beilinson Complex and Canonical Rings of Irregular Surfaces
An important theorem by Beilinson describes the bounded derived category of coherent sheaves on P, yielding in particular a resolution of every coherent sheaf on P in terms of the vector bundles Ω Pn (j) for 0 ≤ j ≤ n. This theorem is here extended to weighted projective spaces. To this purpose we consider, instead of the usual category of coherent sheaves on P(w) (the weighted projective space...
متن کاملm-BLOCKS COLLECTIONS AND CASTELNUOVO-MUMFORD REGULARITY IN MULTIPROJECTIVE SPACES
The main goal of the paper is to generalize Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity for coherent sheaves on projective spaces to coherent sheaves on n-dimensional smooth projective varieties X with an n-block collection B which generates the bounded derived category Db(OX -mod). To this end, we use the theory of n-blocks and Beilinson type spectral sequence to define the notion of regularity of a cohere...
متن کاملSheaf Algorithms Using the Exterior Algebra
In this chapter we explain constructive methods for computing the cohomol-ogy of a sheaf on a projective variety. We also give a construction for the Beilinson monad, a tool for studying the sheaf from partial knowledge of its cohomology. Finally, we give some examples illustrating the use of the Beilinson monad.
متن کاملBoundary Fermions, Coherent Sheaves and D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds
We construct boundary conditions in the gauged linear sigma model for B-type D-branes on Calabi-Yau manifolds that correspond to coherent sheaves given by the cohomology of a monad. This necessarily involves the introduction of boundary fields, and in particular, boundary fermions. The large-volume monodromy for these D-brane configurations is implemented by the introduction of boundary contact...
